A Quality-Focused Release

· Posted by Peldi in Products · 3 Comments

Happy Tuesday friends!

Thanks so much for the great feedback on the 1.8 release from last week. We love the group editing feature too! 🙂

For this week's release we decided to focus on bug fixing, but we also snuck in a couple of little features here and there.

So, without further ado, here's what's new since the last release:

Bugs Fixed

New Features

  • All versions: added support for CTRL+[ and CTRL+] to shrink and grow text size. We already had CTRL+ALT+- and CTRL+ALT+= to do this, but the new shortcuts are handier. Thank you Justin Grant for asking for it!
  • All versions: you can now dock the Property Inspector even when the UI Library is at the top.
  • Mockups for Desktop: added support for the {mockup-path} macro to the Label control, a good idea by Andy Little.
  • Mockups for Desktop: we now remember the undo stack when you switch mockups! Thanks to Isaac Wood and Eva Kaniasty for reporting this.

How do I update?

Easy! Just use our badge button below! Blog-via-email readers, head to our download page instead.

As always, if you hit any snags with the new build let us know immediately and we'll fix it right up! 🙂

For posterity, these are the version numbers of today's release:

  • Mockups for Desktop: version 1.8.5
  • Mockups for Confluence: version 1.8.5
  • Mockups for JIRA: version 1.8.5
  • Mockups for XWiki: version 1.8.5
  • Mockups for FogBugz: version 1.8.6
  • Web Demo: version 1.8.5 launch it

What else is going on?

The big news of the week is that we released a huge update of myBalsamiq to the beta group. We love it, it's really coming together. Head over to Mike's blog for details. Once the dust settles on the build (in a week or two) we'll invite more people to the beta. We already have over 300 people who are interested in joining.

We plan on doing another release of Mockups next week focused on fixing as many known bugs as possible. After that, we'll resume our work on the components feature.

Onward!

  1. Not sure if this is the right spot for this but I have a suggestion for a feature for consideration. I would like to attach a Note to controls that could be exported as a call-out. One use of this would be to briefly define the function of a control (e.g. what will pressing a button do). This would be used to expedite documentation of functional design documentation and would be improved further with an Export to MS Word or RTF option. “Mockup Screens” does this quite well but I’d love to have this functionality in Balsamiq.

  2. Thanks for the editing groups!

Is it a bug or a feature that multiple files are not opened in alphabetical order? I have many mockups labelled a, b, c, and the files do not open in order. Then when I want to export to PDF I have to drag around to get them in order first or edit in Acrobat.

  3. Thanks for the bug fixes! Since you said the next release will also be focusing on bug fixes, may I remind you of one bug that is serious for Asian users? Please take a look at the Asian language filename issue, which was reported several times by Korean, Japanese and Chinese users as below:

    http://community.balsamiq.com/balsamiq/topics/not_support_korean_file_name
    http://community.balsamiq.com/balsamiq/topics/problems_with_multibyte_character_language

I’d love to see the component feature and other many new features as much as other users wish, but I couldn’t be happier to see this problem fixed! Thanks.

[Peldi: hi there. These are high on our list, I’ll try to get to it for the next release.]
