Balsamiq Dev Update for January

Happy New Year, friends! I'm back with a dev update for January. It was another busy month for our dev team (especially coming off of the holidays) and we have some good stuff to talk about it, so let's jump in!

Notifications are here!

After a long development process (to make sure we got it right), we have rolled out phase one of our Balsamiq Cloud Notification system. That means you now will get email notifications for changes and updates in the Balsamiq Cloud spaces that you are a part of. If you're worried that you may get spammed with updates, don't be! You can make adjustments to the frequency of the emails in your user settings.

As you may have noticed in that screenshot, we have also added the ability to @-mention other people on your projects (in case you need to notify someone directly - or quickly). As I mentioned, this is just phase one - phase two will give you a more detailed look at who is making changes to your projects. This has been a highly requested feature for a while, and we're so happy that it's finally ready for everyone. 😊

Other News

As a member of the support team, I am all too familiar with the pains of searching our documentation. We want that to be better, so our Q1 goal is restructure our docs to help with that. You may have already noticed that we redesigned the docs site for our apps, but we are going to take that a step further and break them up, making it easier for the search engine to parse them, therefore making it easier to find the information you're looking for. Hopefully, you won't notice that anything looks different - just that search suddenly works a lot better. We are full speed on that project for this quarter because we will have to start writing new Balsamiq for Desktop docs next quarter. Speaking of which...

The new Balsamiq for Desktop private beta program is going really well. It's still only open to a few people (because the folks in it are finding enough bugs to keep us busy), but we hope to open it up more, the closer we get to release. The latest update has some amazing optimizations from Paolo, and is super fast on the Mac. We cannot wait to share it with you.

We don't have a firm release date yet, but we have a strong goal. As soon as that solidifies into a date, you will be the first to know! If you'd like to get added to the private beta list, you can email us with your platform of choice, and we will get you added. Right now, we are only testing macOS and Windows versions of the app, but that shouldn't stop you for signing up for other platforms as well (like mobile). We will need testers for those platforms in the future!

And that's all there is this month, friends. We hope that you've had (or are going to have) a wonderful New Years celebration. 2019 is going to be a heck of a year, and we are excited to share it with you!
