First Impressions - Wrapping Up Season 1 and Announcing Season 2

· Posted by Leon in UX · Add a comment

Today we published the final video in our First Impressions with Paul Boag series. In it, Paul reviews School on Wheels, a non-profit organization that provides tutoring to homeless children through volunteers.

I love this one because he focuses on their calls to action (in this case asking for volunteers and donations) and all of the considerations that go into compelling people to click on them. It's about usability of course, but also finding the right moment to present them, about building the story and tone, and promoting the benefits, beforehand.

This is a must-watch for anyone involved in the website for a charity organization, and is applicable to any site with clear call to action goals.

School on Wheels episode.

First Impressions was an experiment to see if we could help individual people and organizations with their websites while spreading awareness about good website design principles through examples to a broader audience.

I think that Paul has done an incredible job of providing genuinely useful feedback on these sites that's objective and informed. He gives praise for the things each site does well and provides thoughtful suggestions for the usability and messaging issues he finds, all within a dense, yet enjoyable 20-minute window.

We hope you've enjoyed watching them. If you haven't had a chance to see them all, check them out on our UI Education site. There's a range of sites and services, so it should be easy to find some tips that you can apply to your own product or project.

But wait! There's more...

Craving more videos? Want a chance to have Paul review your site? You're in luck, because we've just agreed to renew the series with Paul for a second season! Over the next few weeks Paul will review submissions for the previous season and we are re-opening the form for new submissions as well.

UPDATE: site selections have been made and signups are no longer active. We will publish the recordings here: First Impressions with Paul Boag. Stay tuned on this blog for future opportunities like this one.

Thanks for watching, and good luck to those who submit their sites for review.
