Where to find things in the editor
The Balsamiq Cloud editor changed a lot in 2026. If you can't find something you used to use, here's where it is now.
Wherever this page says "selection toolbar", the same option is also in the Properties panel when it's turned on (View > Panels > Show properties panel). The panel replaces the floating selection toolbar while it's on.
Elements and layout
| Looking for | Where it is now |
|---|---|
| Size and position (X, Y, width, height) | In the bar at the bottom right of the board. Select the element and press P to jump there. Also in the Properties panel. |
| Element options (checked, disabled, on/off, rotate a device, links) | In the selection toolbar above the selected element. |
| Canvas or page size | There's no canvas size: the board is effectively unlimited. To mark a page, draw a rectangle of that size (hold R and drag; it can be borderless and transparent) or use a Browser Window and set its size. Containers like Browser Window, Rectangle, Tabs, iPhone and iPad can snap to a 1 to 12 column grid, set in their selection toolbar. |
| Move a container without its contents | Hold CTRL+SHIFT while dragging. |
| Lock and unlock | Lock an element with CTRL+2 or from the Edit menu; unlock everything with CTRL+3. To unlock one element, right-click it or use the unlock button in its selection toolbar. To select a locked element, SHIFT+CTRL+click it, or right-click it. |
| Stop an arrow sticking to elements | Select the arrow and turn off the magnet ("Follow elements") in its selection toolbar. |
| Stop elements snapping into alignment | Hold CTRL while dragging. |
| Line or border thickness | There's no per-element setting. The "Draft" project style (Project menu) has slightly thicker lines than "Sketch" and "Presentation". |
| Remove a shape's border | Pick "No border" in the border style, if the shape offers it; otherwise set the border color to match the fill. |
| Name a group | Groups can't be named. Make the group a component and name the component. |
| Delete an element | DELETE (or BACKSPACE on a Mac), Edit > Delete, or right-click > Delete. |
Components
| Looking for | Where it is now |
|---|---|
| Edit a component | Select an instance and choose "Edit source component" in its selection toolbar, or "Edit component source" in the component's menu in the UI elements panel. |
| Change the inside of one instance | An instance can't change the z-order of its elements, or have elements added or deleted: edit the source component. |
| Go back to the component's values | The component button turns green when an instance has overrides. In its component menu, use "Remove all overrides", or "Remove position and size overrides" to undo only a move or resize. To undo one change, select the element you changed inside the instance and use "Remove [property] override" in the green component button next to it. |
Panels, notes and markup
| Looking for | Where it is now |
|---|---|
| The Properties panel (inspector) | View > Panels > Show properties panel. It stays on until you turn it off. |
| Show or hide the side panels | UI elements panel: CTRL+L. Boards panel: CTRL+J. Panels can't be moved. |
| Add elements with the Boards panel open | Use the UI elements popup, or quick search (/ or +). |
| Board notes | Board menu > "Edit board notes...", which opens a dialog. There's no notes panel any more. |
| Sticky notes, callouts, curly braces | The Markup panel in the left toolbar (the arrow icon). Press A to add an arrow and C to add a comment. |
| Templates | The multi-page website templates were removed. Ready-made pieces, such as a login form, are community controls in the UI elements panel: search for them there. The quickest way to start a screen is to describe it to Balsamiq AI. |
| Icons | The icon library in the left toolbar has its own search, and quick search (/ or +) finds icons too. Double-click an icon on the board to swap it. |
| Teammates' avatars on a board | An avatar shows who is looking at that board right now; inactive people's avatars fade out. |
View, fonts and history
| Looking for | Where it is now |
|---|---|
| Zoom | Click the zoom percentage in the bottom-right bar: fit (0), selection (8), width (9) or actual size (1). Hold SHIFT to apply it to all boards. CTRL++ and CTRL+- zoom in and out. You can't type an exact percentage. |
| Make the interface bigger | The interface follows your browser's zoom: use the browser menu, or press CTRL++ with the focus in the address bar (inside the editor, that shortcut zooms the board). |
| Default font and font size | Project menu > "Font and colors...". For one element, CTRL+] and CTRL+[ make the text bigger or smaller. |
| Undo an automatic Markdown conversion | Press CTRL+Z right after it happens. |
| Go back to an earlier version | Project menu > Project History: pick a snapshot and restore it. |
| An image of an element or a selection | Select it and use "Copy bitmap to clipboard" (CTRL+SHIFT+C), or export the selection as PNG. |
| A list of board names | Add a Site Map and click "Populate from Project" in its selection toolbar. |
| Project folders | Project menu > All Projects (CTRL+SHIFT+O), then "New Folder". |
| Another Space | Avatar menu > "Create another Space...". |
Tables
| Looking for | Where it is now |
|---|---|
| Select cells, rows or columns | Click a cell, or a row's or column's handle for the whole row or column. You can select one at a time. |
| Duplicate a row or column | Select it, then right-click > "Duplicate row" (or "Duplicate column"), or CTRL+D. |
| Links in cells | Links work in cells like in any other text. |
| A dropdown in a cell | Add a "v" icon after the cell's text, or place a Combo Box on top of the table: tables act as containers, so it moves with the table. |
| Header color | The header row is always gray. |
| Edit the table as text | Select the table and choose "Edit as text (markdown)" in its selection toolbar. "Data Grid" was the Table's old name. |
| Paste from a spreadsheet | Anything copied from Excel or Google Sheets becomes a Table. Plain text becomes a Table when it has at least 2 rows and 2 columns. To keep it as text, add a Text element, start editing it, and paste inside. |
